The Alternative WI Calendar
The Alternative WI Calendar has become an international phenomena and has gone down in English folklore. The calendar featured 11 mature ladies posing naked, except for a string of pearls, doing the traditional crafts of the WI. The idea was to raise money for the Leukaemia Research Fund following the death of his friend John Baker.
The calendar outsold the famous Pirelli one and many others and the tale has now been made into a major film, Calendar Girls, starring Helen Mirren, Julie Walters, Annette Crosby and an all-star cast of British actors.
Following it's premiere in Chichester in September 2008, The Calendar Girls Stage Show toured the UK to sell-out audiences before arriving in London's West End.
A totally new Calendar has been produced for 2010, it being 10 years on from the original one. Over £2 million has so far been raised and it is hoped that this calendar will take it closer to £3 million.
UPDATE; The last Calendar (2010) has been redesigned using the existing photos and with the addition of a new cover photo, along with receipes for each month, to give a totally new look for the 2011 Calendar.
